The design of the new Chancery Court building is a continuation of the architectural vocabulary of the existing Lamar County Courthouse. This vocabulary is modified to provide a late 20th-century public statement for the fastest growing county in Mississippi. The building is sited in line with the existing courthouse, adding continuity to the urban fabric of this small Mississippi town. The front portico is anchored with two large, white, Ionic columns surmounted with an open air pediment. A traditional courthouse clock fills the center of this pediment. The interior space is simple and unadorned, but stimulates a feeling of arcades and colonnades as the traditional space terminates at the two corner courtroom. Simple expressions in a formal manner of basic building components produce a low cost, classical companion to the existing governmental complex.
